Partial Rewires
and Targeted Upgrades
Not every property needs a full rewire. Sometimes one floor, one room or one circuit is the problem and a focused partial rewire fixes it for a fraction of the cost. We diagnose, isolate the issue and rewire only what needs rewiring. Properly tied in to existing wiring, fully tested, fully certified.
A partial rewire is a focused replacement of one circuit, one room or one section of the property instead of pulling the whole house apart. We see this most often when the kitchen or bathroom is being refurbed, when one upstairs ring main has issues that have shown up on an EICR or when a property is part-original wiring and part-modern (typical with extensions). We rewire only what needs replacing, tie it in correctly to the existing safe wiring and certify the work properly. NAPIT registered, Part P approved, full BS 7671 testing throughout.
A targeted partial rewire saves thousands vs a full rewire
A full house rewire is expensive, disruptive and often unnecessary. We see homes where one ring main is failing because of old VIR cable from the 1960s but the rest of the property has been rewired in the last 15 years. Replacing the whole property would be a £6000 job. Replacing just the failing circuits is a £900 job and gets you the same end result.
The trick is doing it properly. New cable has to tie in correctly to existing junctions. Earth bonding has to be verified across both old and new sections. Full testing has to be done on the entire affected circuit not just the new bit. We do all of that on every job and certify it through NAPIT.
- Honest survey, we tell you if a partial is enough or if a full rewire is needed
- New circuits properly tied in to existing wiring at safe junction points
- Full BS 7671 testing on the whole circuit, not just the new section
- Earth bonding verified across original and new wiring
- Full certification: EIC, MWC and NAPIT building control sign-off
When a partial rewire
is the right call
Most properties that book in for a "full rewire" only actually need a partial. We give you the honest answer after a survey and you only pay for the work that genuinely needs doing.
Cost Saving vs Full
A targeted partial rewire typically costs 30 to 40 percent of what a full rewire would for the same property. Most jobs we quote, partial is the right call.
Typical Duration
Most partial rewires complete in one to three days depending on scope. Single room rewires often done in a single day. Whole-floor rewires two to three days.
Most Common Trigger
Most partial rewires are triggered by EICR fails on a specific circuit. We can carry out the EICR, identify the failing circuits and rewire only those.
Limited Disruption
Targeted rewires are generally far less disruptive than full rewires. Decoration damage limited to the rooms being worked on, often just touch-up needed.
Every type of
partial rewire scope
Single Room Rewires
One room fully rewired, all sockets, switches and lighting renewed. Ideal for kitchen and bathroom refurbs or where a single room has wiring that has reached the end of its life.
From £495 typicalWhole Floor Rewires
Full upstairs or full downstairs rewire while leaving the other floor intact. Common when one floor is older wiring and the other has been done in the last 10 to 15 years.
From £1495 typicalSingle Circuit Replace
One failing ring main, lighting circuit or appliance circuit replaced. Most common where an EICR has flagged one specific circuit as a C2 fail.
From £385 typicalExtension Wiring
New wiring for an extension or loft conversion tied into the existing consumer unit. Includes full second fix and certification for the new section.
Quoted on plansVIR & Aluminium Replace
Pre-1960s VIR rubber cable and 1970s aluminium cable replaced with modern PVC twin-and-earth. Both materials degrade and become a fire risk.
Per circuit basisPre-Full Rewires
Half the property rewired now, the other half budgeted for next year. Lets you spread the cost while still upgrading the most critical sections immediately.

Partial rewire mistakes
we are called to fix
A snapshot of issues we find on partial rewires done by other contractors. Each of these flag as fails on follow-up EICR inspections.
If a recent partial rewire has any of these. We can re-test, fix and re-certify.
